The History of Maisie Kaufmann Learning Centre

Chronological History
Maisie Kaufmann dedicated her life to others. In 1954 she was the foundation pioneer of Endeavour in Toowoomba.

1977 Maisie established a Sports and Recreation Club for people with an intellectual and/or physical disability, in Maryborough.

In July 1988 the Club was incorporated as the Peter Pan Sports and Recreation Club Incorporated. A Board of Management Committee was established.

1987 Maisie was recognised with a Citizen of the Year Award.

1990 Maisie was awarded with an Australian literacy Achievement.

July 1991, the Peter Pan Literacy Club Inc. was incorporated to tech literacy, numeracy and every day living skills to people with a disability.

1994 Maisie passed away in Maryborough on 13 August.

1994 Sylvia Courtney was formally appointed by the Board of Management as the Teacher/Co-ordinator of the organisation.

March 1997 the Peter Pan Literacy Club Inc became a Registered Training Organisation.

April 1998 the Peter Pan Literacy Club Inc. registered its trading name as the Maisie Kaufmann Learning Centre, in honour of its deceased founder.

2003 The Centre was the Regional Winner of the GBACAS Training, Minister’s Training Initiative Award.

September 2003 the Centre was officially opened in honour of the founder - Maisie Kaufmann and her son Raymond Latimore.
